New wire crochet supply on yoola.etsy.com

I know how hard it is to find good quality wire in gold color, so now I'm happy to offer you also gold wire on my etsy shop.
you can either take the kit with the draw plate and a crochet hook or just 2 spools of wire.
Each spool has 40yard of 28 gauge quality gold artistic wire, my students LOVE this wire.
It looks and "behaves" almost like gold filled with an affordable price tag.

You can combine the purchase of the wire with any of my wire crochet online video patterns.
This artistic wire is of course also great for other techniques such as viking knitting, spool knitting, classic crochet and classic wire knitting .
enjoy :)

New wire jewelry small items storage

I know these smallish clasps and rings are not very particular to my wire crochet jewelry making,
and i know that beaders have an even more complicated challenge organizing their materials then me.
After all almost all my clasps , rings, ear wire etc go into this one sweet aluminum box, well , and to be honest just another one with my pearls, stones and other cuties.
I got acquainted with this cute organizer on my latest crochet wire jewelry making  workshop that ended just last week, its so true that by teaching you get so much yourself!!! one of my students, Sigal, (check her jewelry here, she is very talented!) brought her little box with her, and it was love at first site ! she told me she brought it from New York a couple of years ago but that she thinks I can also get one at a local supplier.
The lesson was on Friday, so I had to stay put till Sunday, which isn't easy for me.  On Sunday I immediately ordered 2 boxes and happily filled it up the following day.
its been 2 weeks now but I still find myself staring at it with great satisfaction and affection :)
until today i had this quite large milky plastic box where i put all my items in small plastic bags, the main problem was i sometimes had too much of one item and too little of another, i also wasn't comfy shlepping it around with me.... and since my favorite jewelry making spot is my sofa just next to the garden, It is an issue !
happy Wednesday everyone !!

CELTIC knot, HEART, CROCHET

It's been a while now that I've been fascinated by knots, the simple ones and the more complex,
and i just had to integrate it into my wire crochet creations.

I started reading around (thanking the universe for bringing the internet into our lives....) , I found endless sources about Celtic and Chinese knots , apparently I'm not the only one fascinated about them these days, or maybe not just these days.

Although I'm not Irish (at lest as far as I know) , and although my red hair isn't really mine either, i decided I could  "adopt" the knotting into my knitting (nice....)

Im trying to figure out WHY, although its not really that important and  I think that maybe the fact that knots have been around for thousands of years if not more, simply adds a flavor that only renewed and recycled objects can bring.
or maybe its the simplicity, its one of these things that anyone can do , a universal knowledge.

In the photo is my celtic heart necklace  , made of a handmade crocheted chain, (executed  in my invisible spool knitting technique)  , it is made of fine fine yellow gold filled  wire.

more will come in this direction.... I promise :)

Anna, ellipse geomtric wire crochet ring in rose gold

Anna is an Ellipse geomtric crochet ring in rose gold,
I would like to introduce you with a new ring design, high in the front and low in the back. I came up with it thanks to my cleopatra cuff, introduced not long ago.

I plan to one day put all my design in order, to analyze which intrigued which, im sure it will be inetersting
I hope it don't postpone it too much not sure what i still remember.

Every once in a while I wonder which is abetted strategy, to call my items in descriptive names which is a must for the SEO (search engines) to find me , or give them names that I can relate to, it can take it to a certain period or figure like my cleopatra line .

So for this one i comined both, i strted by clling it just an Ellipse Geometric crochet ring in rose gold, but then I felt something is missing, and I got an urge to call it Anna , I can't really explain why, which Anna, from which book i read lately ?
No idea..... But I hope it will give it good carma.

A nice story about more of my wire jewelry adventures

A couple of weeks ago I got a nice email from someone telling me he knows how much his mom likes my jewelry and that he would like to buy her my pod hoops with a matching necklace, he knew exactly what shades size etc. He told me it's for her 50'th birthday.

He also wrote me he was really busy and it would be the easiest for him to pick it up from the museum shop close to his house, where he knows my jewelry are on display.

Naturally I imagined a 20 something young man, so I wrote him back that if the specific items are not available there the easiest thing to do would be to buy it online and get them directly to his mail box.

At this point I got a very surprising email,..... He wrote me he is too young to have a credit card, that he was only 14 years old and his dad would phone to finalize the payment .
I was SO surprised ! I have  2 14 year old at home myself so it made me even more touched.

During the weekend I got a wonderfu update from him telling me the birthday took place last week and the present was a BIG SUCESS.

/Sigh/
The End ! :)
isnt it just wonderful where the "internet life" takes us ?

Rose gold wire crocheted YoolaCuff bracelet

For some time now I've been on a hunt after rose gold tube clasps for my YoolaCuff , a wire crocheted bracelet cuff.
I dont think there is one etsy seller I didnt nag about this, plus all loacl supply shops I know.
and finally yesterday just before I was about to give up and send for  plating in rose gold my usual yellow gold filled clasp, i found them !!!!! they are just slightly shorter but they are perfect.

I started the hunt for one very dear client that eventually settled for orange wire cuff with yellow gold filled clasps, which turned out stunning ! and continued for another dear client that will I'm sure appreciate the results of my hunt, both already have YoolaCuff in other colors  :) one in silver and one in yellow gold.

But to be honest  the one that would be the most happy would be me..... because along the search I developed a strong MUST HAVE for a rose gold cuff of my own......

Crocheted Sea of Gold Wire

In order to help myself let go of my crocheted wire jewelry I sometimes take photos that are more artistic and less descriptive, if i cant have the jewelry at least i can have the memory.

The image above that I call sea of crocheted gold wire was taken thanks to having to make M A N Y crocheted gold drops with a pearl.

I like the impact of multitudes, it adds richness, glitter and movement, it adds effortless mysteriousness.
The sea of crocheted gold wire photo consist of dozens of crocheted drop earrings with a pearl, a classic earring design of mine that was bought in high volumes in the beginning of May around Mothers day thanks to a mention in the daily candy , you can read more about that "event" in my post my-marathon-of-crocheting-wire
cheers,
Yoola

Crocheted wire jewelry - behind the scene

Crocheted wire jewelry - behind the scene
A glimpse to how and where i crochet me jewelry, of course its only the the crocheting itself, the assembling and metalworking is done on a proper table.... no escape...

In the image:
my "portable work corner" : i.e. my plastic milky suitcase
my crochet hooks
my "crocheted handmade" tools - the way to start any of my designs
my beloved gold filled wire spool (the silver sneaked out of the frame)
color wire for experiments
experimental pieces in process
my TO DO notebook
and most important my "recipe crochet notebook" where i write down all the patterns and little tips for myself, what not to do next time i repeat a design, how much wire to leave etc.

ROSE GOLD crocheted wire jewelry - NEW summer romance

Its Friday afternoon (well it was when i started writing this post )when a wonderful silence goes down on the world, at least on my "time zone"...

I'm not religious but I can feel the specialty of the hour introducing itself.  I've had a hectic week as always and a wonderful workshop this morning with the most calm, peaceful and talented girls. It was our first meeting  of a beginners group and I enjoyed every minute, it is so enjoyable when my students realize how simple crocheting with angels is and how achievable. until that moment they are usually skeptic if they will achieve the same level of work that they see on my designs, and Yes they can :)

But this is not what I wanted to write about today,  I wanted to introduce you with a new love of mine, Rose Gold. A couple of weeks ago I purchased a small spool of rose gold filled wire, some in 0.3mm or 28 gauge (my default favorite wire gauge) and some thicker wire, so I can start exploring its behavior and potential and see if we have a click. I only just started and i can tell - YES YES YES, a summer romance has started blooming. One thing that does worry me is  the availability, its not as common as yellow gold filled and many of the clasps and findings i love using are not available in rose gold, well, im not going to give up, i"ll have to tackle it creatively.

The first 2 designs I made are my crocheted pods on a hoop and my jumbo hoops , the pinkish rosiness of the rose gold looks especially wonderful with the grayness of the oxidized silver wire. I would love to hear which other designs you would like to see in rose gold....

enjoy your weekend !

ONLINE video tutorial for my YoolaCuff, crocheted wire jewelry

I was hoping to issue another video of my wire crocheting much earlier, but time fly by and so many other projects got in the way, but this is it, its here, my YoolaCuff video tutorial for making a crocheted cuff bracelet.
You need so much patient for video editing, i wouldn't have guessed, the funny thing is i thought it would be easier then writing more tutorials,  and will enable me to issue new wire crocheting tutorials  faster Haaaa :)

So its for sure not easier and it will take some time to publish more, but i think its very much worth it, it may even build up to an online workshop, ambitious for someone that only has 2 video tutorials, i know.

How it works - the buyer receives a link and a code that enable him or her to view the tutorial online. in addition i send the PDF tutorial for some more reading .

I also offer people that bought from me in the past the YoolaCuff tutorial to upgrade for a special reduced rate so they don feel left out  .

enjoy :)

Crochting wire and your brain

Occasionally people that see my work for the firs time would stop by either virtually or in real life and say, WOW you are so patient !!! I could never do that...
For their astonishment  i tell them they couldn't be more wrong, I'm a rather active person that can't really stay still for too long. Crocheting is surprisingly calming , its my meditation . This is also why I refuse to refer to my jewelry  wire crocheting as work, so what if its a source of income.
When I started giving my workshops i learned i wasnt alone there, many of the woman i meet say it gives them this very same feeling, especially with the designs that require more crocheting then assembling, such as the Cleopatra necklace, the YoolaCuff or the YoolaTube necklace.
But all this i already knew , what surprised me was that the other day when i was talking to a colleague about my wire crocheting addiction, he told me that studies show it also has benefits to the brain, (is that's why woman age better then man.... I wonder...).
I googled it and learned that according to Neuroscientist Dr. Yonas Geda from the Mayo Clinic, these activities seem to be neuro-protective and have been shown to reduce memory loss in later years by as much as 50%. he says that these activities also help to:
Lower stress
Reduce pain
Reduce symptoms of depression
Boost your immune system
Lower your blood pressure

enjoy your crocheting, knitting, sewing :)

Crocheted wire jewelry - the basics

or in other words, some tips and tricks to better approach crocheting with metal wires.
Wire type -When crocheting with wire its important to pick the right materials, make sure to pick dead soft wire, it looks almost the same as regular wire but the ability to crochet with it is very different.

Wire Gauge - wire projects are often made with higher values, the lowest I use is 28gauge (0.3mm), the higher the no  the thinner the wire , the more flexible it is and the jewel will be softer.

Wire temperature - keep in mind that metal changes its flexibility and softens with temperature, enable the wire to warm up a bit before you get into the temp. of crocheting, do a little project before starting the work on the actual piece.

Stretching the wire- another tip to keep in mind is that metal hardens when stretched, so be ware of that and dont put it into too much tension, always prefer techniques in which you dont have to roll the wire around your finger and keep the wire in tension as you do when crocheting with yarn or cotton.

Wire remembers... - Metal has memory, so if you bend it or wrap it, it will remember and will tend to get back into that form.

Hook type - Its important to pick a good crochet hook that wont get worn out too fast, the wire may leave its marks and the hook will not be as smooth as it was when you started working with it, its not enjoyable to work with such a hook , it
squeak and gets stuck :)

Edges - when working with metal wires the edges can be a big thumbs down if not handled properly, first of all make sure to wrap it 2 to 3 times in a hidden place before cutting the wire, then I recommend to cut the wire by making it "tired" and not by cutting it with scissors, this way the edges are much softer and the wire is much less noticeable. It is don by moving the wire ןמ circles rapidly until it breaks.

enjoy :)

crocheting with metal wires is awesome !

YoolaCuff is on Marie Claire !!!

I was so excited to learn that my YoolaCuff , a crocheted wire jewelry cuff was on Marie Claire, you can imagine what happened when I could actually flip through the pages when I got my own copy ....
About 2 years ago my silver pomegranates were featured on Elle Decor, which was very exciting, but there is something about these shiny color perfumed pages that moves different cords.

Exquisite Provencal Pears

My Provencals Pears were created both as a gesture to the fauvism and my yearning for some far away smells.
It was just another rainy homish Saturday (not many of these... where I come from) that I decided to try and form a pear naturally based on my many poms studies.

The first one turned out too fat but showed some potential , with the second I was already very happy, so I couldn't stop and created 2 more with slight modifications. The green was the first the copper second and last bot not least the dark pink one.

The first was sold almost overnight.... couldn't expect a better start.
The pears were knitted using coated copper wire and a crochet needle, its general dimensions are 2"/2"/3.5" (5/5/8cm).
